Upon taking an aptitude test, Barbara. Marcks discovered she tested highly in logic and reasoning, which led her to achieve an Associate of Arts in information technology and scientific data processing in 1972. Today, she excels in her role as a consulting project manager for her firm, Barbara Marcks LLC, in which she works with companies who are looking to automate or integrate acquisitions. Likewise, she looks at current business processes and tries to normalize and make them more efficient, apply them and help the team get the new business processes into an existing or brand-new ERP implementation. Prior, Ms. Marcks was vice president of information technology at McKesson, where she was the recipient of the President’s Award in 2008.
Throughout her illustrious career, Ms. Marcks is distinguished for having developed a methodology for Project Recovery, helping companies to quickly turn around projects that were over budget and behind schedule. She attributes her success to being a firm believer in growing and changing, as she feels that learning from the people around you is critical to professional evolution. In five years’ time, Ms. Marcks hopes to continue consulting but on a part time basis. She also hopes to serve as a mentor to women in the field, as her own early mentors taught her numerous important components of the industry. A member of the Eastern Star Organization, Ms. Marcks enjoys classical music, quality time with her grandchildren and traveling in her spare time.
